MARIE VERSTRAETE - FIDDLE


Marie Verstraete got an early crush on early music. She studied the recorder with Bart Spanhove and Bart Coen at the Lemmensinstute, where she obtained her Master's Degree in 2009. 


In 2010 she obtained a maxima cum laude for her Master in Mediaeval and Renaisance Music at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen with Kees Boeke and Claudia Caffagni. She also studied renaissance-viola da gamba with Lorenz Duftschmid en obtained a Master of Arts in Musicolgy in 2012 with Prof. Dr. Nicole Schwindt. At the same time she studied the fiddle with Randall Cook (Basel) and Claudia Pasetto (Verona) and took masterclasses with Pierre Hamon, Gerd Lünenbürger, Pedro Memelsdorff, Paul Van Nevel and Benjamin Bagby.


Marie is a member of Aquil’AlterA (BE), Il Nostromo del Sogno (BE), Pentagonale (IT/DE), Isabella (FR/DE) and Mon cuer mon ame (FR/DE), all of them focusing on mediaeval music. With ensembles such as Officium (Wilfried Rombach), L’estro armonico (Sergio Azzolini) and Armonico Tributo Austria (Lorenz Duftschmid)  Marie played concerts all over Europe. She is currently preparing a phD in Musicology at the  Johannes Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz.
